U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur qualifying is set to commence at Fairwood Golf & Country Club in Renton, Wash. on Monday, August 25, as players will look to earn one of this qualifier’s two available spots into the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, to be held Sept. 13-18, 2014 at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J.
This qualifier will be contested over 18 holes, with the day’s first tee time at 10:00 a.m.
The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducts this qualifier for the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
Notable players in the field at Tumble Creek include Lisa Smego of Olympia, Wash., who qualified for this championship last year, and also qualified for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Smego is the reigning WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year.
Also in the field is Ginny Burkey of Eugene, Ore., who earlier this week finished third in the Washington State Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Burkey was named the 2011 WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year.
The U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
