Lee holds on for Women's Amateur title; Papatolis secures Women's Mid-Amateur in wire-to-wire fashion

DuPont, Wash. – Grace Lee of Bellevue shot rounds of 71-71-74 to win the 32nd Washington Women’s Amateur Championship, while Tina Papatolis of Issaquah carded rounds of 76-70-74 to capture the 16th Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Lee led or shared the lead after each of the three rounds, taking it outright after 36 holes. A rising senior on the Gonzaga University women’s golf team, Lee’s victory is her first in a WA Golf Championship and carries an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Under windy and slightly rainy final-round conditions, Lee encountered some trouble on her first nine with a double bogey on hole No. 7, but she recovered by going even par through her final 10 holes, surviving a late charge from runner-up Suzie Tran in doing so.

Lee is aware of the significance of her win.

“I feel like it shows the work that I put in and how it pays off,” she said. “I always enjoy the Women’s Am, they treat the players so nice.”

Lee will tee it up at the U.S. Women’s Amateur starting Aug. 4.

Tina Papatolis

In the Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur, Papatolis entered the round already leading by five strokes. She carded two bogeys in her first three holes, but controlled further damage to wind up with a 74, good enough to finish seven shots ahead at four-over par. The win marks Papatolis’ first WA Golf title since the 2019 Women’s Mid-Amateur. That year, she was named the WA Golf Women’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year and competed in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. The Toronto native also won the PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur in 2023.

Mison Kang

Mison Kang of Renton achieved victory in the Women’s Mid-Amateur net results, finishing the week at 2-under par.

The Washington Women’s Amateur and Women’s Mid-Amateur are two of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
