Bonnie Lo of Chinese Taipei, making her first start in a WA Golf Championship, enjoyed a careful but consistent round. After bogeying her second hole, she birdied holes 5 and 6, carding nothing but pars for the rest of the round to finish with her 71.
Darae Chung of Eugene, Ore had a more eventful route to 1-under, carding four birdies against three bogeys. Safely in red figures after 18 holes, the University of Oregon women’s golf team member will strive to keep that pace en route to her first WA Golf title.
Grace Lee of Bellevue had to wait until hole No. 9 to card her first birdie, but stayed out of trouble the rest of the way to finish her 71 to match the pace of Lo and Chung. Like them both, Lee is searching for her first WA Golf victory.

Tina Papatolis of Issaquah emerged from a difficult-scoring opening round at 4-over par, leading the Mid-Amateur championship by a single stroke. Save for a bogey on hole No. 5 and a triple bogey on hole No. 7, Papatolis maintained a clean card, going bogey-free on her second nine. The 2019 Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, Papatolis is in pursuit of a second trophy.
