Please join us in welcoming our two USGA P.J. Boatwright Interns to the WA Golf Team, Nick Robinson and Christian Lovallo.
Get to know a little bit about them:
Nick Robinson
Give some background on yourself
I grew up about 40 minutes outside Los Angeles. The entire side of my Dad’s family is from Whidbey Island, Wash., so I’ve spent every summer since I was a kid up here in the Pacific Northwest. I just graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in communications with minors in digital studies and sports communication. I competed on the golf team there as well! I’m the son of Kurt and Laura Robinson, and have a younger sister, Heather, who will be a senior at Duke next year.
What’s your favorite thing about golf?
I love how golf shapes you as a person. You learn so much about yourself trying to master this game. It allows you to see things about yourself you may not have realized.
How did you become interested in the USGA Internship? What appeals to you about working in the golf industry?
I knew I wanted to work in golf after graduation, and while researching opportunities this position jumped out at me. I’ve gotten to know Scotty and his team in the Championship Department throughout my years of playing in the Association’s championships, and know first-hand how well-run their events are. It was a dream fit, and I’m excited to get to work with Scotty and his team!
Who would be the other three players in your Dream Foursome?
My dream foursome would be my Dad, Phillip Rivers and Tiger Woods.
Christian Lovallo
Give some background on yourself
I was born and grew up in Connecticut. I’ve lived in Wilton, Conn. for most of my life, attending Wilton High School. I got a B.A. in political science and a minor in technical communication from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. During my time at school, I moved down to Sarasota, Fla. and worked as a tennis professional at The Oaks Club. I then moved out here to Washington to intern in June 2021! My twin sister Carly and family still reside in Connecticut and Florida.
What’s your favorite thing about golf?
My favorite thing about golf is enjoying the walk to my drive from the tee box, and it makes the walk that much sweeter when your ball is in the middle of the fairway!
How did you become interested in the USGA Internship? What appeals to you about working in the golf industry?
I became interested in working in the golf industry in college when I was watching players on the 17th hole of the 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Open on TV. Watching the commotion around that hole excited me like nothing else and I knew I wanted to work with tournaments and golf ever since.
Who would be the other three players in your Dream Foursome?
My dream foursome would have to be Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy and Tiger!
