Who Drives You?

Winner of From Her Tees’ last issue drawing

Sally Bourgault of Olympia, Wash. was the winner of two Legends Cup Pro-Am spots. Here she is in her own words….

“I started playing golf in High School in 1975 with my best friend Jennifer. We were the only girls on the team. Although at that time, I do not remember any other girls competing on the other school teams. We always had a fun time. After graduating, life just got in the way with jobs, kids, time, etc. I didn’t take up golf again until a few years after my son graduated from high school in 2003. My husband, Phil, is a great golfer. He started playing with his dad and grandpa when he was ten years old. My initial reason to take up golf again was to play golf with my hubby, but it has evolved into so much more than that.”

“In 2007 I joined the Tumwater Valley Golf Course Women’s Executive League. On my first day of golfing at Tumwater, it was pouring with rain. I decided to walk, and boy, was that a mistake. After putting away my soggy bag, I saw Kelly, who also was golfing at Tumwater for the first time, struggling with her cart. I asked her if she wanted a hand. We were destined to be friends. Not only did we have the exact clubs and bags, we found other similarities as well. (Wine, kids, partying, shopping, exercising, complaining about our husbands…) It was fate. We joined the Capitol City Women’s League in Olympia, WA, in 2007. Our handicaps seem to mirror each other throughout the years.”

“In 2019, my employer, Puget Sound Energy, was one of the sponsors of The Legends Tour at White Horse. They had a drawing for 4 employees to win VIP passes, and my name was drawn!!! I had never been so excited to be a part of such a great event. Of course I asked Kelly to join me, as my win allowed for me to bring a guest. Our PSE team was paired with Tammi Green, who is such an inspiring women on and off the course, carries herself with warmth, composure and ease. I liked her immediately. Her golf accomplishments include being in the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, winning a major, and twice playing in the Solheim Cup. While golfing with Tammi last year, she shared with me that she took some time off from her golf career to care for two family members and had just returned to the golf scene last year.”

“When I started playing golf again in 2007, I had no idea where the game would take me. Through golf, I have made many new friends, played in numerous competitions and tournaments, and once winning the Most Improved Player award. Although most of my golfing is with Kelly and the women’s league at CCGC, I do get to play with Phil (hubby) whenever his back, shoulder, foot, and hand allows him to. Being able to play once again with Tammi, or any of the other Pro’s in Legend Tour, would be awesome.”
