Jarred Bossio Victorious at 85th Washington State Men’s Amateur Championship

Port Orchard, Wash. (June 23, 2011) – Jarred Bossio of Olympia was able to hold onto the lead throughout the final round of the WSGA Men’s Amateur Championship. Beginning the day with a four stroke lead, Bossio continued his solid play and started his round with seven straight pars before birdying Nos. 8 and 9 to turn at 2-under par 34 and build his lead to six. His only blemish on the day would come at hole-10 where he pulled his second shot left into the woods on the tough par-4 and would make a double-bogey dropping his lead back to four. Bossio regained his composure and went on to make all pars with the exception of a title clinching birdie on the par-4 15th hole. He finished the day with round of even par 71 for a 72-hole total of 8-under par 280. The University of Idaho golfer combined for 19 total birdies on the week and said his strategy was, “to hit a lot of 3-irons” on the tight tree lined course.

First round leader Andrew Perez of Olympia finished as runner-up. He posted a one-under par 71 in the final round and finished at 4-under par 284 for the championship. His final round got off to a slow start with bogeys on Nos. 4 and 7, but he sprang back with birdies on Nos. 9, 13, and 18. The highlight of Perez’s week came during round one, where he holed out from the fairway on par-4 holes Nos. 3 and 8 for eagle en route to a 7-under par 65.

Dylan Goodwin of Mukilteo finished alone in third place with a two-under par total of 286. Goodwin also struggled out of the gate this morning in the light rain, making a bogey on the par-4 third hole and a double-bogey on the par-3 fourth. He rebounded with birdies on holes Nos. 5 and 9 to post a 1-over par 37. Goodwin played consistently on the back nine, making one birdie on hole-16 and an offsetting bogey on hole-17 to post a final round of even par 72.

Matt Rawitzer of Bellingham finished alone in fourth place. He posted an even-par 288 for the championship. He posted a final round 73 to edge out Reid Martin of Mukilteo, who finished in fifth place with a total of one-over par 289.

The low round of the day was 2-under par 70 and was shared by Alex Stamey of Mill Creek and Garrett Howard of Spokane.
