The four championships were held concurrently at Moses Lake (Wash.) Golf Club and conducted by Washington Golf. The Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur championships were contested over 54 holes of stroke play on June 20-22, while the Senior and Super Senior championships consisted of 36 holes of stroke play on June 20-21.
Zhang shot rounds of 72-71-74 to finish at 1-over par, good for a one-shot victory in the Women’s championship over Darcy Habgood of Pullman, Wash. The two were paired together in the final group along with Anastacia Johnson of Tacoma, Wash. Zhang and Habgood were nearly dead even all day, but a par on the 16th hole against Habgood’s bogey put Zhang in the driver’s seat.
“It feels really good to get the win,” said Zhang, “this is one of the biggest Women’s amateur events in the state of Washington, so it feels really special.”
This is the first WA Golf title for Zhang, who has been playing competitive golf since she was eight years old. She is the youngest player to ever win the championship at just 13 years old.
