Throughout our 100+ years, dedicated WA Golf members have given back to the game—volunteering as rules officials, course marshals, score keepers, course raters, handicap chairs, club reps, and more. We couldn’t be more grateful for our volunteers.

Interested in volunteering? We have many opportunities of varying levels of commitment.

Become a Course Rater

WA Golf rates golf courses in accordance with the USGA Course and Slope Rating System. Our Course Rating team is composed of staff and groups of trained volunteers who evaluate each hole from each tee and gather data for various obstacles. Raters assign numerical scores to each hole to determine the official Course and Slope Rating used for handicap calculations.

Volunteer for Your Club

There are a couple of WA Golf volunteer opportunities at the club level.

Club Representative

Club “Reps” serve as a liaison between WA Golf and their club—a vital communication link—relaying important information about the association and the USGA to their members. Vise-versa, club reps keep us informed about the goings-on at the club-level and of any concerns we should be addressing. Email membership@wagolf.org about this position.

Club Handicap Chair

This important role ensures that the handicap system is properly administered and creates a fair and equitable golfing experience for all. This person helps members learn about the rules of handicapping and ensures that scoring records are accurate. WA Golf provides handicap training and helpful tools and resources.
