Orondo, Wash. – Jacob Rohde of Everett, Wash. shot 5-under 67 in today’s final round to win the 15th Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, held this week at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash. The 54-hole stroke-play championship was conducted by Washington Golf (WA Golf).
On a hot, blustery, and smoky day in central Washington, Rohde’s phenomenal round consisted of a spotless scorecard of five birdies and no bogeys. He was the only player in the field to shoot under par in the final round, and it wasn’t close, with the next best score being a 1-over 73.
Rohde had started today’s final round six shots behind second-round leader Mark Strickland of Mukilteo, Wash. Strickland was still in the hunt after today’s front nine, but while Rohde went 2-under on the back nine, Strickland went 4-over to fade from contention.
Rohde’s scores of 70-79-67 put him at even-par for the three-round championship, with the layout at Desert Canyon playing tough in the summer conditions.
He has qualified for four U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships, and was named to the Hudson Cup the past two years. This is the first state championship title for Rohde.

Finishing second, two shots back of Rohde, was Jacob Koppenberg of Bellingham, who had won this title in 2021, and was named the 2023 WA Golf Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year.
Spencer Ellis of Wenatchee, last year’s champion, finished 13th.
To be eligible for the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, contestants must be 25 years of age or older by the first day of the championship. Competitors must have an active GHIN number and USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 9.9 at the time of entry.
