All four remaining players from Washington were eliminated during Tuesday’s match play rounds at the U.S. Mid-Amateur and Women’s Mid-Amateur championships, taking place this week on the east coast.
In the Mid-Amateur, Daniel Campbell of Bellingham and Taylor Klopp of Vancouver were both defeated in this morning’s Round of 64. Campbell fell to Nicholas Maccario of Havervill, Mass. by a score of 2&1, while Klopp was defeated by Andrew Bailey by a score of 3&1.
Kennewick’s Arnell Garza was the lone Washingtonian to advance out of the morning Round of 64. He won his first match by a score of 2&1 before falling in this afternoon’s Round of 32 to Drew Kittleson of Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the Women’s Mid-Amateur, Jacqueline Bendrick of Mercer Island was the only woman from Washington left standing on Tuesday. She won her morning match in the Round of 32 by a score of 1 up, and dropped her afternoon match in the Round of 16 by a score of 2 up to the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Lauren Greenlief of Ashburn, Va.
