FIVE TEAMS WITHIN THREE SHOTS OF THE LEAD AT 13th WASHINGTON STATE WOMEN’S BEST-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Burlington, Wash. (Monday, May 21, 2012) – The leaderboard is crowded after the first round of the 13th Washington State Women’s Best-Ball Championship at Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington, Wash. as five teams will enter the final round within three shots of the lead.
Seven-time champions Leslie Folsom and Jane Harris of Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle sit in a tie atop the leaderboard after posting an opening round of 1-under par 72. Folsom and Harris got a significant boost to their title defense when Harris holed out for eagle on the par-5 15th hole. The team also carded three birdies to offset four bogies on the day.
Also tied for the lead is Denise Kieffer of University Place and LoriAnne Johns of Tacoma, who carded a round of 1-under par 72, which included three birdies and just two bogeys.
Catherine Allen of Bellingham and Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. sit alone in third place at one stroke back after posting an Even par 73. Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam and Pat Terry of Chelan are tied for fourth place at 2-over par 75 with 2003 champions Mimi Racicot and Jani Japar of Seattle, just three strokes behind the leaders. Tomorrow’s final round begins at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Skagit Golf and Country Club, the only private club in the Skagit Valley, is nestled in the shadow of the Cascade Mountains and Mount Baker. Widely considered one of the Pacific Northwest’s hidden gems, Skagit G&CC boasts tree-lined fairways and fast, smooth greens that challenge golfers of all ages and abilities.

The WSGA is a 501(c)4 non-profit, amateur golf association governed by men and women volunteer, amateur golfers. The 25-person WSGA Board of Directors employs a full-time staff of 14 individuals. WSGA members pay an annual membership fee, through their golf club, to belong to the Association. The WSGA also serves as a state-wide representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and works closely with a number of allied associations within the golf industry for the betterment of the game.

Burlington, Wash. (Sunday, May 20, 2012)– As Skagit Golf & Country Club in Burlington prepares to host the 13th Annual Washington State Women’s Best-Ball Championship conducted by the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA), 46 teams are preparing to brave the elements and the competition in hopes of securing the title.
The competition will be stiff, as defending champions Leslie Folsom and Jane Harris of Rainier Golf and Country Club headline this years’ field. Seven time champions in this event (2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011), the duo looks to continue their dominant streak. As for the weather, the forecast is calling for temperatures in the mid to upper 50’s and a strong chance of rain.
