2016 WSGA Women's Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship- Round Two Recap

The second round of the Washington State Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship was held today at Sunland Golf & Country Club in Sequim, Wash. The 54-hole competition concludes tomorrow, June 23rd.

Lauren Atkinson of Bow, Wash. followed her first round score of one-over-par 73 with a round of two-over-par 74 today that included four birdies.  She had a strong front nine that included three of her birdies, shooting a one-under-par 35.  Atkinson battled throughout the middle of her rounds making a handful of bogies, but closed her round on a high note birdying her final hole.   She maintained her lead on the field and will take a one shot lead going into the final round tomorrow.

In second place alone is Marianne Li of Gig Bellevue, Wash., who fired a one-over-par 73 today to pull within a shot of Atkinson. Li Started out slow on the front nine making four bogies, but made three birdies on the back nine, including two birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to close out her round.  Li’s one-over-par 73 was the low round on the course today.

Victoria Fallgren of Spokane, Wash. posted a second round of five-over-par 77 that included four birdies to take over solo third place, and secured her spot in the final pairing tomorrow morning with Atkinson and Li.

Olivia Benzin of Tacoma, Wash. will head into the final round in fourth place after shooting a two-day total of ten-over-par 154.

Kendall Gray of Federal Way, Wash. holds onto fifth place, firing consecutive rounds of six-over-par 78, heading into the final round.

After two rounds in the 2016 WSGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, two-time champion (’12, ’13) Leslie Folsom leads by four strokes. Folsom has played some consistent golf over the first two rounds, shooting a six-over-par 78 in the first round and following that with a round of seven-over-par 79 today.

Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame Inductee Alison Murdoch of Victoria, BC bettered her first round score by one stroke today shooting an eight-over-par 80 to secure solo second place heading into the final round tomorrow morning.

In third place is Shawn Farmer of Renton, Wash., who tied Leslie Folsom for low round of the day, in the Mid-Amateur Championship, shooting a seven-over-par 79.  She will join Folsom and Murdoch in the final pairing tomorrow morning, sitting six shots back of Folsom’s lead.

2014 WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year Denise Kieffer of University Place, Wash. sits in fourth place after shooting consecutive rounds of twelve-over-par 84.
