Port Orchard, Wash. – The duo of Alyssa Amann (Riverside) and Destyn Markel (Brewster) combined to shoot 3-under par 69 to capture the 9th Washington Mixed Chapman Championship. This is the first WA Golf championship title for either of them. In second place, one shot back at 2-under par, were the duos of Doug and Erin Pierce of Sedro Woolley and Colten Kleis (Kenmore) and Shawn Farmer (North Bend).
This year's 18-hole championship was held at McCormick Woods Golf Club in Port Orchard, Wash.

Playing in the Chapman format, Amann and Markel had built a strong lead of 4-under par after 13 holes, but then bogeyed 14 and double-bogeyed 15 to fall back. With birdies on 16 and 18 they vaulted to the top of the leaderboard to seal the title. They both work at Gamble Sands in Brewster, Wash., with Amann’s boyfriend also serving as that course’s superintendent.
Seol Won and Sungwon Yang
Winning the Net division was Seol Won and Sungwon Yang, both of Redmond, who combined for a 13-under 59.
The championship was open to amateur golfers with an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 36.4 for males and 40.4 for females. Each side must have had one male player and one female player. There was no age requirement or limit, and teams were divided into flights based on course handicap.
The championship was played in a Chapman stroke play format, with two players playing as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each player playing their partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, including par-3 holes, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and then play that ball alternately to complete the hole.
The Washington Mixed Chapman is one of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
