Baumann/Crockett prevail at Men's Best-Ball, Paulson and Bonorden win Senior Division

Yakima, Wash. (Friday, May 28, 2010) – Terry Crockett of East Wenatchee and Ken Baumann of Peshastin shot an impressive round of 2-under par 70 in high winds to follow up their first round 65 to win the 54th Annual WSGA Men’s Best-Ball Amateur Championship held at Apple Tree Resort in Yakima, Wash.

Their two-day total of 9-under par 135 was good enough to hold off Nick Ellis and Rob Matson of Wenatchee, and brother’s Ryan and Dan Whitaker of Ellensburg and Cle Elum by one shot. Baumann secured the victory with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. Crockett and Baumann have been partnering in the WSGA Men’s Best-Ball since 1993 and this is their first title.

Jim Paulson and Tom Bonorden, both from Bothell, won the 17th Annual WSGA Senior Men’s Best Ball title after beating Scott McDougall and Russ Beckstead, both from Wenatchee, in a dramatic playoff. Both teams started the final round 2-strokes off the lead and ended deadlocked at 10-under par 134 after posting rounds of 7-under par 65’s today. Paulson would seal the championship for his team by rolling in a 15 foot par putt on the first playoff hole.

Since opening in 1992, Apple Tree has built an impressive resume that includes a 4-star rating from Golf Digest. Apple Tree’s signature par 3, #17 features the world-famous Apple Island Green which has been named “Best Par Three” by the Seattle Times.

This is one of 15 state championships conducted annually by the WSGA. Other WSGA championships include the Women’s Best-Ball, Women’s and Senior Women’s Amateur, Men’s Amateur, Men’s and Women’s Member Club Team, Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur, Parent/Child, Men’s and Women’s Champion of Champions, and the Men’s and Women’s Mid-Amateur.
