Championship Preview: 13th Annual Champion of Champions

DuPont, Wash. – The first round of the 13th Annual Washington Champion of Champions begins Thursday, April 28 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.

The championship will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play on April 28-29. This year’s field consists of 152 champions from around the state of Washington and Northern Idaho, competing in four divisions – Men, Senior Men, Women and Senior Women.

Tee times begin tomorrow (Thursday) at 7:30 a.m. on the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.

Defending champion Andrew Von Lossow headlines a strong field in the Men’s division. In addition to winning last year’s championship, Von Lossow also advanced to U.S. Open Final Qualifying last year and he won the 2021 U.S. Hickory Open. Other past champions in the field include Bjorn Bjorke (2009 and 2020), Jon McCaslin (2018) and Sean Packer (2012).

In the Senior Men’s division, past champions in the field include defending champion and five-time winner Tom Brandes (2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021) and three-time winner Keith Crimp (2013, 2014, 2020).

In the Women’s division, two-time champion Victoria Fallgren (2019, 2020) is in the field this year, trying for her third title in four years. Also in the field is the reigning Washington Women’s Amateur champion Kennedy Knox, and the reigning Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Jacqueline Bendrick.

Past champions in the field for the Senior Women’s division include defending champion Karen Johnson, Beth Wrigley (2019) and Leslie Folsom (2018, 2020). Folsom also is a two-time winner of the Women’s division (2014, 2015). Past champions Gretchen Klein (2017), Karen Madison (2015) and Denise Kieffer, the inaugural winner in the Women’s division (2009), are also in the field. 

To be eligible to compete in the Champion of Champions, a player must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Men’s and Senior Men’s Eligibility Requirements

  • Club Champion of a WA Golf Member Club (2020 or 2021)
  • Past Champion of the Men’s Champion of Champions (2017-2021)
  • Past Champion of Senior Men’s Champion of Champions (2017-2021)
  • Champion of a WA Golf Championship; excluding Parent-Child and Mixed Chapman Championships (2021)
  • Champion of any event on the WA Golf Men’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Champion of any event on the WA Golf Senior Men’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-10 on the WA Golf Men’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-10 on the WA Golf Men’s Mid-Amateur Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WA Golf Senior Men’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WJGA Boys’ Performance Points List (2021)
  • WJGA State Junior Boys Champion (2021)

Age: No age requirements for Men’s Championship. Players in the Senior Men’s Championship must have reached their fifty-fifth birthday by April 28, 2022.

  • Past Champion of the Women’s Champion of Champions (2017-2021)
  • Past Champion of Senior Women’s Champion of Champions (2017-2021)

  • Champion of any event on the WA Golf Senior Women’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WA Golf Women’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WA Golf Women’s Mid-Amateur Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WA Golf Senior Women’s Performance Points List (2021)
  • Top-5 on the WJGA Girls’ Performance Points List (2021)
  • WJGA State Junior Girls Champion (2021)

Age: No age requirements for Women’s Championship. Players in the Senior Women’s Championship must have reached their fiftieth birthday by April 28, 2022.
