Larry Daniels of Seattle, Wash. shot the low round of the day, taking medalist honors to lead the four players who advance from the 18-hole qualifier held at Seattle Golf Club for the 2013 USGA Senior Amateur. The 59th USGA Senior Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 21-26 at Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, N.C.
The other three players to advance from this qualifier are Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C., Mark Macejko of Vass, N.C. and Stephen Macgeorge of Shoreline, Wash. On the second playoff hole for the final qualifying spot, Macgeorge outlasted John Von Lossow of Kirkland, Wash. by chipping in for birdie to play his way into the championship proper. Von Lossow is the first alternate.
The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the USGA Senior Amateur Championship.
Daniels has now qualified to play in eight USGA championships. He previously qualified for the 2006 and 2012 U.S. Senior Open, and the 2000, 2001 and 2003 U.S. Mid-Amateur. This will be the third USGA Senior Amateur he has qualified for, having previously played in the 2008 and 2009 championship, making the Round of 64 both times. Daniels also won the 2011 PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur and the 2009 WSGA Mid-Amateur.
The USGA Senior Amateur is open to amateurs, age 55 and older, who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4.
Wade Hampton Golf Club was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1987. The course has consistently been ranked among the top 100 in the U.S. by several golf publications, including Golf Digest.
The USGA Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
