Field is Set for U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifying at Sahalee CC

U.S. Senior Amateur qualifying is set to commence at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. on Wednesday, August 27, as 73 players will look to earn one of this qualifier’s four available spots into the 2014 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, to be held Sept. 13-18 at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.

This qualifier will be contested over 18 holes, on the North and East nines at Sahalee, with the day’s first tee time at 8:00 a.m.

The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducts this qualifier for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

Among the names to watch for in the strong field at Sahalee is Tom Hale of Lakewood, Wash. who last week won the Washington State Mid-Amateur Championship and who qualified for the 2013 U.S. Senior Open. Also in the field is Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash., who has been named the WSGA Senior Men’s Player of the Year four consecutive years, and who has qualified for the past two U.S. Senior Opens; Stephen Macgeorge of Shoreline, Wash. who qualified for last year’s U.S. Senior Amateur; Bruce Richards of Seattle, who has qualified for nine USGA national championships and who is a member of the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame; Kent Brown of Colville, Wash. who is a past champion of the Washington State Senior Amateur, and who qualified for the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur; Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor, Wash., who has qualified for five USGA national championships; and David Talcott of Milton, Wash. and Rick Weihe of Bellingham, Wash., both of whom qualified for the 2012 U.S. Senior Amateur.

The U.S. Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
