Orondo, Wash – Kimberly Hulst (Sammamish) shot rounds of 79-79 (+10) to win the 27th Washington Senior Women’s Amateur, while Karen Madison (Spokane Valley) shot rounds of 78-78 (+8) to win the 13th Washington Super Senior Women's Amateur. Both championships were held concurrently this week, July 28-29, at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash., over 36 holes of both gross and net stroke play.
This was the first time Desert Canyon had hosted either championship.

Hulst began her round three strokes back of round 1 leader Tina Papatolis. On what was a difficult scoring day for all players, Hulst made the turn in 2-over with one birdie on the seventh hole. She quickly ascended the leaderboard when Papatolis carded a 10 on the par-4 sixth. On the back nine, Hulst birdied 11 and survived a 4-over stretch through holes 14 and 15 to finish with another 79. Papatolis, Leslie Folsom and Kim Titus all finished in a tie for second at 12-over, two shots back.
Earlier this month, Hulst was co-medalist in qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Senior Women’s Open.

Jan Artim (Manson) shot net rounds of 77-77 (+6) to win the Senior Net division.
In the Super Senior division, Madison began her second round just one stroke behind round 1 leader Soon Kim. Madison dropped a couple shots early on holes 1 and 3, but stayed in contention and carded all pars until another bogey came at 12. One more came on 16, but her card was otherwise neat and the 4-over round gave her a three-stroke cushion over Kim, who fell out of the lead with back-to-back double bogeys on 12 and 13.
Madison’s win marks her fourth in the Washington Super Senior Women’s Amateur (2016, 2021, 2023). She also won the PNGA Super Senior Women’s Amateur in 2015 and 2023.
Soon Kim
Kim did wind up with net rounds of 74-79 to win the Super Senior Net title. As a result, Renee Cox (Rathdrum, Idaho) was credited with solo second.
Desert Canyon is a familiar destination for WA Golf. In 2025, it hosted the Washington Parent-Child and has also been the site of the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur (2024), Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur (2022), among other championships, demonstrating a remarkable degree of flexibility. The golf course initially opened in 1993 under the design of Jack Frei.
For both championships, entries were open to women golfers who have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 40.4 and are members in good standing of a WA Golf member club. Senior players must have reached their 50th birthday, and super senior players must have reached their 65th, by July 28, 2026.
The Washington Senior and Super Senior Women’s Amateur Championships are two of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
