Papatolis leads Washington Senior Women’s Amateur; Kim out front in Super Senior

Orondo, Wash – Tina Papatolis (Issaquah) shot a 2-over par 76 and leads the 27th Washington Senior Women’s Amateur, while Soon Kim (Bellevue) shot a 3-over par 77 and leads the 13th Washington Super Senior Women's Amateur. Both championships are being held concurrently this week, July 28-29, at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash. Both championships are being held over 36 holes of both gross and net stroke play, with a hole-by-hole playoff to determine a champion if necessary.

This is the first time Desert Canyon has hosted either championship.

Papatolis opened her round with a birdie and had two more on her card by the time she made the turn. She went 4-over on the back side, but finished safely in at 2-over. She is three strokes ahead of Leslie Folsom (Tukwila) and Kimberly Hulst (Sammamish).

Papatolis is making her debut in Senior Women’s Amateur. She is the 2026 Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur champion, and also won that event in 2019 and 2025. She also placed second in the 2026 Washington Senior Women’s Champion of Champions and won the 2026 Washington Women’s Four-Ball alongside Taya Battistella.

Jan Artim (Manson) currently leads the Senior Women’s Net division at 3-over.

In the Super Senior division, Kim’s round included three birdies. She did not record a single double bogey or worse throughout the day and currently is one stroke ahead of three-time Super Senior Champion Karen Madison (Spokane Valley).

Karen Banna (Spokane Valley) currently leads the Super Senior Net Division at 3-under par.

Desert Canyon is a familiar destination for WA Golf. In 2025, it hosted the Washington Parent-Child and has also been the site of the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur (2024), Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur (2022), among other championships, demonstrating a remarkable degree of flexibility. The golf course initially opened in 1993 under the design of Jack Frei.

For both championships, entries were open to women golfers who have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 40.4 and are members in good standing of a WA Golf member club. By today, July 28, 2026, senior players must have reached their 50th birthday, and super senior players must have reached their 65th.

The Washington Senior and Super Senior Women’s Amateur Championships are two of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
