Jim Pike has spent over 50 years playing and studying the game of golf, and over 35 years coaching students of all ages and abilities. His recently-released instructional book, Your Road to a Championship – swing development to winning golf, is a comprehensive guide to building and maintaining a golf swing, from both the physical and mental aspects.
Accessible and understandable for players of all abilities, the book is 209 pages of step-by-step tutorials, swing thoughts and anecdotes, all complemented with color photographs.
As a player, Pike won five titles in the PGA Western Washington Chapter, and as an instructor was twice named one of the state’s top teachers by Golf Digest.
A native of Tacoma, Pike graduated from Stadium High School and then from BYU. He became a PGA member in 1986, and spent his entire career at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. – as PGA assistant, PGA head professional, PGA director of golf, and finally as general manager. Pike’s administrative role at Sahalee was integral as the club hosted the 1998 PGA Championship, the 2002 WGC-NEC Invitational, the 2010 U.S. Senior Open and the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
As Pike mentions in the final pages, this book is his legacy to a game which has given him so much. Indeed, this was a win-win for both sides.
