Lauryn Nguyen of Seattle has earned a coveted invitation to play in the 2024
Augusta National Women’s Amateur,
the final round of which will be held at the famed Augusta National layout on April 6, the week before the Masters Tournament will be held.
The championship features an international field of 72 women amateurs who compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players and ties to the final round. The event was established to inspire greater interest and participation in the women’s game by creating a new, exciting and rewarding pathway for these players to fulfill their dreams.
Currently a junior on the Northwestern University women’s golf team, in 2022 Nguyen was named the
PNGA Women’s Player of the Year
and the
WA Golf Women’s Player of the Year
. She had also been named the 2020 WA Golf Junior Girls’ Player of the Year.
Before heading to Northwestern on a golf scholarship, Nguyen was a standout player in the Northwest. She won four titles in 2020, including the WJGA Girls’ State Championship for the second time (also winning it in 2017), and the Notah Begay Jr. Seattle Qualifier. In 2022, she won the PNGA Women’s Amateur, at which she also earned medalist honors, and finished third in the Washington Women’s Amateur.
At Northwestern, Nguyen was named Big 10 Freshman of the Year, and First Team All-Big 10 in her sophomore year. In 2023 she was named an Academic All-Big 10.
In 2019, Nguyen received the USGA/ALGA Presidents’ Leadership Award, and she is also known for her leadership off the course.
She and her brother, Alex, manage the charitable
Duc Foundation
with the assistance of their friends and family. In collaboration with the Duc Foundation, Lauryn and her “golf sisters” from the Nguyen families organize the annual Nguyen Junior Am charity golf tournament.
To date, the Nguyen Junior Am and Duc Foundation have raised over $168,000 in support of Seattle-area charities, including CJK Community Homes, First Tee of Greater Seattle, Washington Junior Golf Association, Friends of Little Saigon, West Seattle and White Center Food Banks, and the Highline Scholarship Foundation.
