Michael Putnam of University Place, Wash. and Christopher Babcock of Shoreline, Wash. have advanced through 36-hole Sectional qualifying, each earning a spot in the 118th U.S. Open Championship to be held June 14-17, 2018 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
Putnam shot 1-over 73 in his morning round, but then fired an 8-under 64, the low round of the day at the qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, to secure one of 14 qualifying spots from the site. He will be playing in his sixth U.S. Open (fourth via Sectional qualifying).
Christopher Babcock is a former member of the University of Washington men’s golf team and now competes on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada.
