Michael Swingle
Olympia Wash – Several players shot rounds at or around even par at both the Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateurs. Both championships are being held concurrently from June 2-4, 2026, at Olympia Country & Golf Club in Olympia. The first round offered clear, very hot playing conditions with little wind in the shadow of both the Puget Sound and Mount Rainier, with temperatures touching the low 80s.

In the Senior championship, Michael Swingle (Carnation, Wash.) was one of several players to shoot an even-par 72 in his opening round. The one-time PGA assistant professional and current coffee shop owner enjoyed a solid front nine with three birdies, and even later eagled the par-5 15th hole, but an assortment of bogeys – including two to finish his day – kept him at level par. Swingle has maintained a crowded competitive schedule in 2026, having already played in the WA Golf Champion of Champions, Senior Men’s Four-Ball and Washington Senior Open prior to this week.
Ken Wade
Ken Wade of Kennewick, Wash. – the 2024 Senior Men’s Amateur champion – also had a complex day. He made the turn in a 1-under 35, before setting off on a backside on which he carded three birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey. The dust settled with his 72, a solid start to a potential second Senior Men’s title in three years.
In the Super Senior side, three players shot rounds of 73 to tie for the lead, among them Bob Johnson (Vacaville, Calif.), who had a particularly adventurous day. Johnson was three-over par through his first 13 holes, but a subsequent birdie and eagle erased that margin entirely. He bogeyed the 18th to settle at 1-over, but the back-nine rally could position him well for the remainder of the week. Mike Williams (Olympia) and David Talcott (Milton, Wash.) are tied with Johnson atop the leaderboard.
Four more super seniors are tied for second at 2-over, among them Norm Bradley (Kelowna, B.C.), who won this championship division in 2024.
Mount Rainier was prominently visible during the opening round.
For the first round, all Super Senior groups teed off first; the second will see the Senior division with the morning tee times.
The Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateurs are two of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
