Tommy Kimmel of Spokane, Wash. shot 2-over-par 74 to claim medalist honors and the only available spot in U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying held today at The Club at Rock in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Kimmel will now advance to compete in the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur, to be held July 15-20 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
A bogey on the par-5 15th hole put Kimmel’s chances seemingly out of reach, but he strung together three consecutive birdies to finish strong and claim the lone available spot by a single stroke.
Kimmel just finished his sophomore year at Gonzaga Prep, and this spring led the school to the Greater Spokane League team title while taking the individual title. He earned the league’s Player of the Year honors.
