Shelton, Wash. – Elias Tunison of Scottsdale, Ariz. Shot 2-under 70 in today’s second round to put himself at the top of the leaderboard in the 17th Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship being held this week at Salish Cliffs Golf Club in Shelton, Wash. The 54-hole stroke-play championship is conducted by Washington Golf (WA Golf).
Tunison’s two-round total of 3-under (141) has him one shot ahead of Dalton Conn (Seattle), who earlier this year had made it to Final Qualifying for the U.S. Open. Two shots back are Paul Mitzel (Gig Harbor), who has qualified for the past three U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships, and was named to the WA Golf team in the 2026 PNGA Lamey Cup; Bjorn Bjorke (Port Orchard), who twice won this championship (2020, 2013); Reid Hatley (Hayden Lake, Idaho), who twice won this championship (2016, 2018), and has been named the WA Golf Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year six times; and Spencer Ellis (Wenatchee), who won this championship in 2023.
After today’s second round, the field was cut to the low 60 players and ties, who will compete in Thursday’s final round.

Last month, Tunison had qualified for the Washington Men’s Amateur, held at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., where he finished T55.
To be eligible for the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, contestants must be 25 years of age or older by July 21, 2026. Competitors must have an active GHIN number and USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 9.9 at the time of entry.
The Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur is one of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
