Our fourth and final qualifier to determine the field for the 94th Washington Men’s Amateur Championship was held today at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.
Harrison Murphy of McKinney, Texas shot 6-under-par 66 to earn medalist honors in leading the field at this qualifier. Murphy, who went off in the second group, set the pace early with five birdies and one eagle against one bogey.
The cut line for today’s qualifier landed at 1-over-par 73. Mason Phalen of Kenmore and Erik Heggelund of Seattle both advanced through a four-person playoff that was conducted to determine the final qualifying spots.
Phalen and Heggelund both made par on the second playoff hole to advance.
The top 19 players from today’s field of 102 have secured spots in the championship proper, set to take place August 11-13 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
The Washington Men’s Amateur Championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The championship field features 120 players, 51 of which are exempt. The remainder of the field is filled with players who must qualify at one of the four qualifying sites throughout the state.
