47th Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches Being Held at Riverside G&CC

Many of the best junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada will converge this weekend for the 47th edition of the Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches, taking place August 8-9 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore.

The Hogan Cup 36-hole team matches - held annually at Riverside Golf & Country Club - feature the best junior golfers from the Western U.S. and Canada competing against each other in a four-person team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total. Medals are awarded to the top three teams as well as the top three individuals in the field.

Representing Team Washington this year are Joe Highsmith, Sean Yi, Chris Mogg and Zach Evens.

In 2014, the team representing Northern California ran away during the second day of competition, winning the Hogan Cup for the third time in four years. Justin Suh, who played on the winning side, earned medalist honors last year.

Teams from Northern and Southern California have been dominant in this prestigious team event in its history. In 22 of the last 30 years, a team representing either Northern or Southern California has won the Hogan Cup.

The event began in 1969 in commemoration of the vast achievements and contributions to the sport by Eddie Hogan, Riverside's long-time head golf professional who served the club from 1939 until his tragic drowning death in 1968. Hogan, an Oregon Amateur champion and PNGA Amateur champion, was credited for transforming the role of the golf professional, developing what is now considered the standard for the green grass pro shop.

Hogan Cup alumni include tour players such as Patrick Cantlay, Bobby Clampett, Fred Couples, Rickie Fowler, Lennie Clements, Scott Simpson, Robert Gamez, Bill Sanders, Kirk Triplett, John Fought, Peter Jacobsen, Jeff Quinney, Casey Martin, Jason Gore and Tiger Woods.
