Bradley Mulder Bradley Mulder expands advantage at 105th Washington Men’s Amateur

DuPont, Wash. - Bradley Mulder of Spokane, Wash. shot a 5-under-par 67 and leads the 105th Washington Men’s Amateur at 11-under par following the second round.

The Championship is taking place this week, June 23-25, at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., marking first time The Home Course will have hosted the Men’s Amateur since the golf course opened in 2007. The Home Course is co-owned and operated by WA Golf and the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.

Conditions during the first round were hot, mostly clear and with little influence of wind.

Following the completion of play Wednesday, a 36-hole cut will reduce the field of 120 players to the low 60 and ties.

Mulder began and ended his round having made only one bogey for the championship and ended it that way. Following his opening 66, Mulder found more birdies on the third and ninth holes, and maintaining a steady pace, tacked on three more on the back nine.

Through 36 holes, Mulder has 12 birdies and just one single bogey; the latter came on his third hole of the week. From Washington’s east side, Mulder is playing the Home Course for the first time this week.

“I’m just pretty straight off the tee,” Mulder said of what he’s seen out of his game today and yesterday. “From there, if I’m in the fairway, I have a lot of attacking chances...I’ve putted pretty well, solid all around.”

Continues Mulder, on maintaining form for one more round, “I’ve just got to play my game, one try at a time."

Mulder entered the championship week following an excellent spring season at Colorado Christian University, during which he was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). He is the identical twin brother to Benjamin Mulder, who is also playing in this week’s championship and is a member of Washington State University’s roster.

At 8-under, three strokes behind Mulder is Brock Maulding (Lake Tapps, Wash.). Maulding, who carded a 67 in the first round, logged a 69 in the second and is the only player other than Mulder with two sub-70 rounds. And, like Mulder, Maulding was bogey-free on day two. He birdied the par-4 second hole, and proceeded to rattle off 12 straight pars before two more birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.

Other contending players include Kai Lambro (Newcastle, Wash., -7), Sam Renner (Bend, Ore., -6), Dalton Dean (Lynwood, Wash., -5) and defending champion Collin Hodgkinson (Beaverton, Ore., -5). Renner, Dean and Hodgkinson each matched Mulder’s low second round of 67.

The Washington Men’s Amateur is the state’s premier men’s amateur championship and a counting event toward the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Traditionally attracting the region’s finest players, the championship has been designated as an official USGA Exemption Event, and the winner will receive an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship, held at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. from August 10-16.

This year’s championship received nearly 400 entries from those vying for a spot in the field of 120. There were 19 players who had accepted an exemption into the championship based on criteria previously set forth, and five 18-hole qualifiers were held around the state – at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma, Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, The Home Course, Liberty Lake Golf Course in Spokane and North Bellingham Golf Course in Bellingham – to fill out the remainder of the final field of 120.

The Washington Men’s Amateur is the longest continuously run golf championship in the state. Its illustrious history traces the arc and the growth of Washington’s golf community. Past champions include Joe Highsmith, RJ Manke, Fred Couples, Joel Dahmen, Alex Prugh, Brock Mackenzie, Kermit Zarley and John Bodenhamer, among many others. Complete information and a full list of past champions can be found here.

The Men’s Amateur is one of 14 championships conducted annually by WA Golf.
