Comment period for Westport Golf Links project is now open
Comment period for Westport Golf Links project is now open To some, the Westport Golf Links project in Westport, Washington looks like just another golf development. In reality, the project is a comprehensive initiative designed to revitalize the coastal community’s economy while enhancing and protecting Washington’s picturesque Pacific Coastline. Five-plus years into the planning and permitting process, the privately-funded $30 million project is now at a pivotal point – the 45-day public comment period in response to the project’s Environmental Impact Study.
(Project renderings of the golf course as it would look if built among the dunes at Westport.)
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) public comment period is now open, and your voice can make a difference. To submit your comments, please email  wgl.wlsp.deis.comments@gmail.com . In the subject line, please include the Project File Number: 25-COW-EIS-01. The recreational opportunities are obvious as the thought of a David McLay Kidd-designed seaside links course set along the Pacific Coastline already has many golf enthusiasts around the world dreaming of walking the fairways. Beyond the golf, Westport Golf Links will bring key economic, environmental and health/safety benefits, including: Economic Revitalization:
  • The project's primary goal is to stimulate the local economy. It is projected to generate substantial economic impact, from construction through ongoing operations.
  • Construction will create temporary jobs, injecting capital into the region.
  • Operationally, the course will drive tourism, supporting local businesses and attracting golf enthusiasts.
  • Increased tax revenue will benefit Westport, Grays Harbor County, and Washington State.
  • The project will create many permanent jobs within the hospitality and golf operations sectors.
Environmental Stewardship:
  • Developers are committed to environmental responsibility, working with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
  • Plans include environmental restoration, such as restoring native plant communities and managing invasive species.
  • Treated effluent water will be used for irrigation, conserving fresh water.
  • The project will also include the creation of nearly 70 acres of high value interdunal wetlands on-site as well off-site restoration of nearly 70 acres of critical salmon habitat.
State Park Improvements:
  • The project will also result in improvements to the Westport Light State Park outdoor recreational opportunities. Including new trails, and other amenities that will be available to the general public.
Community Enhancement:
  • The project will contribute to Westport's long-term economic stability, diversifying the economy and reducing vulnerability to fluctuations.
  • Improvements to the state park that the golf course resides in will also provide more recreational opportunities for all members of the community.
In essence, Westport Golf Links represents a balanced approach to community development, prioritizing economic growth, environmental sustainability, and recreational enhancement.
