Chris Crisologo of British Columbia and Blake Windred of Australia each fired a 5-under par 66 to grab a share of the lead after the first round of the 53rd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.

Paired in a group with defending champion Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco, Calif., Crisologo started the day 1-under through the first nine before finishing in a flurry.

Crisologo carded an eagle on the 14th and birdies on the 15th and 18th to vault up the leaderboard.

“I chipped in from about 25 yards for eagle,” said Crisologo, “that kind of got me going.”

Windred, who entered the championship as the No. 14 ranked player in the world (WAGR), started the day with bogeys on two of the first three holes, but righted the ship by shooting a bogey-free 5-under 31 on the back-nine.

24 players sit at even par or better after round one, including defending champion Isaiah Salinda who shot a 2-under par 69 to stay within striking distance of the lead.

In the Morse Cup competition, the team from British Columbia Golf comprised of Chris Crisologo, Jeevan Sihota and Henry Lee hold the lead with a team score of 7-under par.

The teams from the Arizona Golf Association, Northern California Golf Association, and Pacific Northwest Golf Association sit T2 with team scores of 3-under par.

The Morse Cup team competition takes place concurrently during the first two days of the 72-hole Pacific Coast Amateur. There are 15 member Pacific Rim golf associations that comprise the Pacific Coast Golf Association, and each golf association selects three players to represent them in this team competition. Two of the top three scores from each team in rounds one and two will count for the Morse Cup portion of the event.
