The second of four qualifiers to determine the field for the 94th Washington Men’s Amateur Championship was held today at Kalispel Golf & Country Club in Spokane, Wash.
Sam Stiles of Colbert and Jason Welty of Spokane both shot 4-under-par 68 to tie for medalist honors in leading the field at this qualifier.
The cut line for today’s qualifier landed at 1-over-par 73. Stew Kuespert of Hayden, Idaho, Tyler Pride of Spokane, Eric Martin of Pullman and Will Alexander of Chehalis all advanced through a six-person playoff that was conducted to determine the four final qualifying spots.
Kuespert, Pride and Martin all advanced on the second playoff hole, while Alexander made birdie on his third playoff hole to advance.
The top 12 players from today’s field of 66 have secured spots in the championship proper, set to take place August 11-13 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
The Washington Men’s Amateur Championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The championship field features 120 players, 51 of which are exempt. The remainder of the field is filled with players who must qualify at one of the four qualifying sites throughout the state.
