Playing in the Chapman format, the duo of Pless and Gants carded four birdies against two bogies in today’s round and found themselves in a three-way playoff with Kiselya Salecdo of Tacoma & Todd Plewe of Cortez, Col. and defending champions Taya Battistella & Dane Renkert of Bellingham at the end of the day.

Pless and Gants would prevail on the first playoff hole, capturing their first WA Golf championship. Battistella and Renkert finished runner-up, while Salcedo and Plewe finished in third.

Winning the Net division in a scorecard playoff was Patrick and Julie Opel of Ocean Shores who combined for a 9-under 63. Tracy and Brian Cameron of Shoreline finished runner-up.

The championship was open to sides of amateur golfers with an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 36.4 for males and 40.4 for females. Each side must have one male player and one female player. There is no age requirement or limit, and teams are divided into flights based on course handicap.

The championship was played in a Chapman stroke play format, with two players playing as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each player playing his or her partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, including par-3 holes, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and then play that ball alternately to complete the hole.
