Michael Swingle Swingle gains momentum in Senior Men’s Amateur; No clear favorite in Super Senior

Olympia, Wash. - Michael Swingle of Carnation, Wash. recorded a 2-under par score of 70 to take the solo lead of the Washington Senior Men’s Amateur at that number, while several players remained in contention in the Washington Super Senior Men’s Amateur. Both championships are being held concurrently from June 2-4 at Olympia Country and Golf Club in Olympia, Wash.

Compared to the first round, which had calm yet brightly sunny and hot playing conditions, the second was much more mild under mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 60s.

Swingle entered the day at even par and didn’t take long to get his round moving. A bogey-free 33 on his front nine gave him some breathing room over the field, but bogeys on the 11th, 13th and 17 holes prevented a breakaway. It gave him a final round of 70, which ended up sufficient for his two-shot lead.

Swingle was one of two players to notch a 70 on moving day. The other was Paul Hogben (Seattle). Hogben, the defending champion, birdied his first two holes and soon made the turn in 32. Two backside bogeys slightly diluted Hogben’s score, but he kept any damage to a minimum and escaped the second day with a strong under par round.

Hogben won the 2025 Washington Senior Men’s Am by way of shooting an ace on his third playoff hole. He and Swingle will navigate the course together in the final round as they vie for the title this year.

In the Super Senior, Bob Johnson followed his opening 73 well and recorded three consecutive birdies on his front side. Near him contending is David Farnam (Bremerton), who had a wild ride throughout his first 12 holes, carding four birdies and three birdies. On Friday, both players will contend for their first WA Golf titles.

The Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateurs are two of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
