Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission luncheon to highlight Washington Golf Foundation

At the Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission’s monthly meeting, to be held December 11, Washington Golf Foundation President Doug Rohner will introduce Troy Andrew, CEO of Washington Golf (WA Golf), who will share an update on WA Golf Youth on Course, the largest youth golf program in the state, and the Foundation that is powering its impact.

Social time will be from 11:30am-12:00pm, followed by the lunch and meeting from 12:00-1:15pm, held at the Summit Club at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

One of WA Golf’s most significant impacts on the game is through its charitable arm, the Washington Golf Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit that funds WA Golf Youth on Course. Through these efforts, WA Golf and the Foundation partners with more than 85 golf courses to provide more than 16,000 junior golfers access to golf for just $5 per round and, more importantly, access to life-changing opportunities through the game.

The Foundation also provides scholarships and competitive grants for standout junior players from Washington who show exceptional golf ability, financial need, strong character, and meaningful community involvement.

Two influential leaders helping drive this work are Jermaine Kearse, former Lakes High School and Seattle Seahawk standout, and Andrew Putnam, PGA TOUR player and Tacoma native. Both serve on the Washington Golf Foundation Board, lending their voices, leadership, and passion for creating meaningful opportunities for young people through golf. Their commitment has elevated the visibility, momentum, and reach of the Foundation’s initiatives. They will appear in a recorded video, and on December 11th you will hear more about their involvement and the impact they are having in our community.

Founded in 1922, WA Golf is one of the nation’s largest amateur golf associations, serving more than 106,000 golfers, more than 520 member clubs, and 260 golf facilities across the state. As the United States Golf Association’s official representative in Washington, WA Golf provides golfers with a USGA Handicap Index, delivers meaningful member benefits, offers statewide casual golf events, provides core services to every golf facility and golfer in the state, and conducts many of Washington’s most historic and competitive amateur championships.
