Team Washington is co-champion of Girls Junior Americas Cup; Kim is co-individual champ
Cassie Kim of Yakima, Wash. shot rounds of 70-66-73 on the par-72 Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif. to become co-champion for the individual title in the 2019 Girls Junior Americas Cup.
Team Washington
Team Washington is a little excited about winning the state’s first gold medal in the history of the Girls Junior Americas Cup. Left to right are teammates Taylor Koch, Adithi Anand, Cassie Kim (who tied for first in the individual competition) and Grace Lee.
Kim had finished the three rounds tied at the top with Lana Calibuso-Kwee of Hawaii, with both players finishing at 7-under-par.   Kim and Calibuso-Kwee propelled their respective teams to also finish in a tie in the overall team competition. Kim’ great finish, along with the play of her Team Washington teammates Adithi Anand, Grace Lee and Taylor Koch, combined to give Team Washington and Team Hawaii be declared as co-team champions in this year’s event.   This is the first time in the history of the event that Team Washington has finished in first place. There are 18 teams that competed in this year’s Girls Junior Americas Cup.   Individual scores.   Team scores.   Kim just graduated from Davis High School in Yakima, where she won an astounding 22 all-league golf tournaments in a row. She also won the individual 4A State High School Championship in her sophomore year. She missed the state high school championship this spring due to a scheduling conflict, as she had committed to taking a pre-medical school exam on the date of the championship.

While in high school, Kim was a two-time Yakima Valley Player of the Year recipient, and was the NCWAA CBBN District champion in 2016, 2017 and 2018. In her junior career, Kim won the stroke play at the 2017 PNGA Junior Girls’ Championship, took home the title at the 2018 WJGA Eastern Open and took third at the 2018 AJGA Kyle Stanley. Last month she was co-medalist at a U.S. Girls’ Sectional qualifier.   Kim will be attending Gonzaga University in the fall, where she will compete on the women’s golf team.
