Walla Walla to host 2026 Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur

Walla Walla Country Club

Walla Walla, Wash. — Washington Golf has announced that the 2026 Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships will be held at Walla Walla Country Club. The two elite state championships will run concurrently from June 16-18.

The scheduling marks the first time Walla Walla will have hosted either championship. It previously has hosted both the Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateurs in 2020, as well as the Washington Men’s Amateur in 2002 and 1941.

“Walla Walla Country Club is deeply honored to host the 2026 Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships,” said Marcus King, COO and general manager of the facility. “It’s a privilege to welcome the region’s finest women golfers to our course and community for this prestigious event. We take great pride in showcasing our club’s beauty, history, and challenge, as well as our world-class hospitality. We look forward to an inspiring week of competition and camaraderie.”

Originally formed in 1899, Walla Walla Country Club is one of the six founding clubs of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association. During its first two decades, the club closed on two occasions, most notably during World War I. It reorganized again in 1923, with the layout designed by W.W. Baker. The course was redesigned in 1936 by World Golf Hall of Fame architect A.W. Tillinghast, whose other projects include Bethpage Black, Baltusrol, Medinah, and Winged Foot, among a prestigious assortment of others.

Both the club’s pedigree and the known competitive challenge expected from the region’s best women amateur golfers should make for an exciting week.

“We cannot be more excited to return to Walla Walla Country Club and watch the best female amateurs in the state compete for the Washington Women’s Amateur title and a spot into the U.S. Women’s Amateur,” said Eric Sjogren, WA Golf director of championships. “We believe the immaculate course conditions, the smaller greens, tricky tee shots, and windy conditions Walla Walla is known for will provide a strong but fair championship experience for players.”

The Washington Women’s Amateur is one of WA Golf’s marquee championships, being a USGA Exemption Event, with the champion receiving an invite to the U.S. Women’s Amateur, which in 2026 will be held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., on August 4-9. Last year, Grace Lee earned a spot in the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur with her win at The Home Course, in DuPont. Other previous Women’s Amateur champions include Lauren Nguyen (2024), Angela Zhang (2023, 2022), Kennedy Knox (2021) and Alice Duan (2020).

Tina Papatolis will enter as the defending Women’s Mid-Amateur champion. Additional champions of that category include Taya Battistella (2024), Jacqueline Bendrick (2021, 2022, 2023) and Victoria Fallgren (2020, 2018, 2017).

The Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships are two of 14 conducted annually by WA Golf.
