Play got underway for the 5th Annual Washington State Champion of Champions at the Home Course in DuPont, Washington. The Men’s, Senior Men’s, Women’s and Senior Women’s all competed in the first round of the two-day competition.
Going into the second day, Dave Bates (Renton) is the leader of the Men’s Championship. Dave carded a round of 4-under par 68. Two-time former champion Mike Haack (Bellevue) and Sandy Vaughan (Seattle) are tied for second place at 3-under par 69.
Tom Brandes (Bellevue) is leading the Senior Men’s Championship after posting a score of 2-under par 70. Trailing the 2012 champion and sitting alone in second place is Rob Bringardner (Snoqualmie) at even par 72.
In the Women’s Championship, Leslie Folsom (Tukwila) has the lead going into the final day after carding a 7-over 79. The 2009 champion Denise Kieffer (University Place) sits one behind the leader with a score of 8-over par 80.
Lisa Smego (Olympia) is the current leader in the Senior Women’s Championship after an opening round of three-over par 75. Ginny Burkey (Fircrest), Lorna Martinson (Union) and 2012 champion Yasue Alkins (DuPont) each shot 11-over 83, placing them in a tie for second place.
The first hole-in-one of the WSGA Championship Season came from Grant Cole (Redmond) after he knocked it in from 170 yards on hole 14.
Final round action starts tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
