Cle Elum, Wash. – Scott Almquist of Coto de Caza, Calif. shot a 3-under 69 to earn medalist honors over the 41-player field who competed today in U.S. Senior Amateur qualifying held on the Prospector Course at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash.
Claiming the other available spot in this qualifier is Tim Rypien of Spokane, Wash., who shot a 1-under 71.
Almquist, a winner of the SCGA Mid-Amateur title back in 2011, proved that he can still bring the heat by going 4-under-par through his first 10 holes. He would have only one bogey on the day, finishing two strokes better than Rypien.
Rypien carded three birdies and two bogeys on his round, and then edged Tom Herrick of Olympia, Wash. in a playoff to claim the other available spot. Rypien was the 2020 Men’s Club Champion at Kalispel Golf and Country Club and qualified for the 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur. His brother Mark Rypien is a former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl MVP.
