Three Advance To U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship
Three Advance To U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship from Prospector Qualifier Cle Elum, Wash. – Sectional Qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links (WAPL) Championship took place today on the Prospector Course at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash. with 12 amateurs attempting to earn one of the three spots advancing into the championship proper which will be held at Neshanik Valley Golf Course in Neshanik Station, N.J. on June 18-23. Li claimed medalist honors with the only round under par at 1-under 71, while Wanderscheid and Lee posted even-par rounds of 72. Li’s round started with 10 straight pars before making birdies on holes 11, 14 and 16 with offsetting bogeys at holes 15 and 17. Wanderscheid double-bogeyed the par-3 third hole but battled back with birdies on holes 6, 13 and 18 with just a lone bogey on the par-4 16th hole. Lee’s round started hot with birdies at holes 1, 3 and 11 with just one bogey on the day at hole 5 until two late bogeys crept in at holes 15 and 16. Cherokee Kim of DuPont, Wash. and Naomi Ko of Victoria, B.C. tied with 2 over-par 74s and had a playoff to decide the order of first and second alternate.
