Playing in the Chapman format, the duo of Battistella and Renkert carded seven birdies against one bogey in today’s round, to win the title by three shots. Finishing in a tie for second place were the teams Torrin Westwood from Seattle and Audrey Orem, and Issac Elaimy and Hannah Elaimy both from Seattle.
This is the second time in two years that Battistella and Renkert have won this championship (2022). Battistella just punched her ticket for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur championship after earning medalist honors in yesterday’s qualifier at Port Ludlow.
Winning the Net division was David and Leslie Cox from Bainbridge Island who combined for a 12-under 60. Torrin Westwood and Audrey Orem finished runner-up.
The championship was open to sides of amateur golfers with an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 36.4 for males and 40.4 for females. Each side must have one male player and one female player. There is no age requirement or limit, and teams are divided into flights based on course handicap.
The championship was played in a Chapman stroke play format, with two players playing as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each player playing his or her partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, including par-3 holes, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and then play that ball alternately to complete the hole.
