Battistella and Renkert win 8th Washington Mixed Chapman Championship; third title in four years
Dane Benkert and Taya Battistella
Lakewood, Wash. – The duo of Taya Battistella and Dane Renkert (both from Bellingham), combined to shoot 3-under par 66 to capture the 8th Washington Mixed Chapman Championship. Battistella and Renkert won on the third hole of a three-way playoff, ahead of Sammie Pless/Irfan Yusoff (Seattle, Anacortes) and Isaac/Hannah Elaimy (Seattle). It's the second consecutive Mixed Chapman title for Battistella and Renkert, and third in the previous four years (2022). This year's 18-hole championship was held at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. Championship Links:

Playing in the Chapman format, Battistella and Renkert had an adventurous round with only six pars, but after finding themselves at even-par through 13 holes, the players birdied three of their last five to count themselves into the playoff. The extra holes started off hole No. 1, where all three teams tied. The Elaimy team was then eliminated after the second, and the now-twice defending champions sealed the title over Pless and Yusoff after the third. Winning the Net division was Chris and Autumn Coovert from Gig Harbor, who combined for a 8-under 63. Sam Pintar of Issaquah and Colleen Donovan of Bellevue finished as net runners up, by virtue of a scorecard playoff. The championship was open to amateur golfers with an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 36.4 for males and 40.4 for females. Each side must have had one male player and one female player. There was no age requirement or limit, and teams were divided into flights based on course handicap. The championship was played in a Chapman stroke play format, with two players playing as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each player playing their partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, including par-3 holes, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and then play that ball alternately to complete the hole. The Washington Mixed Chapman is one of 14 championships held annually by WA Golf.
