Bremerton, Wash. – Nate Hair of Spokane leads the 36th Washington Senior Men’s Amateur Championship after two rounds; while Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor holds the top spot after two rounds in the 15th Super Senior Men’s Amateur.
Both 54-hole championships are being held this week, September 20-22, at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash.

Hair opened the Senior championship with a 1-under par in yesterday’s round and fired a 1-over 73 in today’s round to grab the top spot heading into the final round. Hair’s round today comprised of five bogeys, four birdies and nine pars.
First round leader Todd Tibke of Snohomish fell to third place after shooting a 5-over 77 in today’s round. Erik Hanson of Kirkland sits in second place, one shot back after rounds of 74-71.
In the Super Senior, Jim McNelis followed up yesterday’s round of even-par 72 with another round of 72 today to take a three shot lead heading into the final round. McNelis entered the day one shot back of leader Bruce McKinney of Cheney, who sits in second place after firing a 4-over 76 in today’s round.
McNelis is seeking his second individual state championship. He won the 2017 Washington Senior Men’s Amateur. He and partner Karl Smith combined to win the 2019 Washington Senior Men’s Four-Ball.
To be eligible, contestants in the Senior Men’s Amateur must by 55 years of age or older by September 20, 2022, while contestants in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur must be age 65 by that same date. All competitors must have an active GHIN number and USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 12.4 at the time of entry.
