Jim Coleman of Billings, Mont. shot a 2-under par 70 during today’s 18-hole qualifier to earn medalist honors in qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held September 10-15 at Stonewall Links in Elverson, Pa.
Today’s qualifier was held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Coleman was the only player in the field to shoot under par, and is the only player from this qualifier to advance to the championship proper. He finished the front nine today at 2-over par and in the middle of the pack, but on the back nine poured in five birdies against a lone bogey to finish at 2-under.
