Cameron MacKenzie of Vancouver, B.C. shot a 2-under-par 70 during today’s 18-hole qualifier to earn medalist honors in qualifying for the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held October 3-8, 2015 at John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
Today’s qualifier was held at Gamble Sands in Brewster, Wash. The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

MacKenzie is the only player who is advancing from this qualifier to the championship proper. He eagled the 301-yard par-4 second hole, got to 3-under-par after the 16th hole, and despite a bogey on the par-4 17th was able to hang on to a one-shot lead which earned him the medalist honors. Roger Eichhorn of Bend, Ore. finished one shot behind MacKenzie and earned the first alternate spot.
A 2005 graduate of Oregon State University, MacKenzie played on the men’s golf team all four years. He was runner-up in the 2004 Oregon Amateur. He is now an investment advisor in Vancouver, B.C.
MacKenzie also qualified for the 2009 U.S. Mid-Amateur, where he advanced to the Round of 64.
The U.S. Mid-Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
