Lee and Papatolis build leads in Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur

Walla Walla, Wash. - Grace Lee (Bellevue, Wash.) shot a 1-under par 71 in today’s second round to expand her lead at the 33rd Washington Women’s Amateur, while Tina Papatolis (Issaquah, Wash.) recorded a 3-over par 75 and remains in possession of the Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur lead. Both Lee and Papatolis are the defending champions of their respective divisions.

The championships are running concurrently at Walla Walla (Wash.) Country Club from June 16-18, 2026, over 54 holes of stroke play, and features the top women players of any age and mid-amateur women players aged 25 and over, across Washington and Northern Idaho.

Temperatures in the second round hovered around the low 80s, down slightly from the first. The wind was also not as intense, though it picked up as the day went on. Scoring proved difficult in both divisions, with Lee’s 71 the only score under par.

In the Women’s Amateur, Lee entered round 2 with a one-stroke lead. Teeing off in the penultimate group Wednesday, she birdied the first and, save for a bogey-birdie swap on 12 and 13, subsequently parred her way to what is now a five-shot lead over Darae Chung (Eugene, Ore.). Lee’s bogey on 12 marks only her third through 36 holes, and she has yet to card a double bogey or worse. She is 4-under par for the championship.

Accustomed to playing in Eastern Washington, Lee is a 2026 graduate of Gonzaga University and was the WA Golf Women’s Player of the Year in 2025.

One group behind, Chung’s round had its ebbs and flows. She managed back-to-back birdies on her sixth and seventh holes but negated them with a double bogey on the ninth. Controlling any damage, she played her second nine 1-over, good enough to land her in solo second at that score for the championship.

Amanda Peng (Bellevue) was just one back of Lee after 18 holes and remained generally close for most of the second round, but a four-bogey stretch on holes 14-17 got her no nearer to the front. Still, she finished strong with a birdie on the tough par-5 18th and, at 2-over for the championship, multiple shots ahead of fourth place. Lee, Chung and Peng will comprise the final group in round 3.

15-617 (29)Tina Papatolis

In the women’s mid-amateur, Papatolis endured a round slightly trickier than her first. She carded three bogeys in her opening nine and another on hole 11. Her first double bogey of the week came at the 17th, but a birdie finish on 18 sealed what still was the lowest mid-amateur round of the day by three shots. Papatolis is 3-over par for the week.

Papatolis won the 2019 Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur in addition to 2025.

Brooke Henderson (Richland, Wash.) is now six shots back of Papatolis following a 6-over par 78. Desirae Clarke (Puyallup, Wash.) is third, 10 back of the lead after carding an 80. All three players were grouped together during the opening rounds and will again for the final round.

The Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur championship are two of 14 held annually by Washington Golf.
