Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships being held at Desert Canyon

Orondo, Wash. – The 36th Washington Senior Men’s Amateur and 15th Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships will be held concurrently this week at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash. on September 20-22.

Both championships are 54 holes of stroke play and are conducted by Washington Golf (WA Golf).

Last year’s championships were held at Kitsap Golf & Country Club in Bremerton, Wash. In the Senior Amateur, Tom Brandes of Bellevue won his fourth consecutive title and eight overall; while Mark Johnson of Mountlake Terrace won the Super Senior Amateur.

Both Brandes and Johnson are in the fields this year, looking to defend their titles.

Other past Senior Men’s Amateur champions in the field this year are Keith Crimp of Ellensburg (2010). Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor (2017), Bob Burton of Everett (2015) and Rick Weihe of Bellingham (1998) who are all playing in the Super Senior championship.

Among those in the field this year in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur are past champions JD McDonald of Kennewick (2020), Rick Weihe (2015) and Ron Petersen of Coquitlam, B.C. (2011-12).

To be eligible, contestants in the Senior Men’s Amateur must by 55 years of age or older by September 20, 2022, while contestants in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur must be age 65 by that same date. All competitors must have an active GHIN number and USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 12.4 at the time of entry.
