Washington Women’s Amateur & Mid-Amateur being held at Whidbey Golf Club

Oak Harbor, Wash. – Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor, Wash. is the site this week for the 31st Washington Women’s Amateur and the 15th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships. The two championships will take place concurrently over 54 holes of stroke play from June 18-20.

The Washington Women’s Amateur is the state’s premier amateur championship for women and traditionally attracts the region’s best players. This year, the championship has been designated as an official USGA Exemption Event, and the winner will receive an exemption into the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Some of the players to watch in the Women’s Amateur include:

  • Angela Zhang of Bellevue: Two-time defending Washington Women’s Amateur champion; reigning WJGA Girls’ State Champion; 2023 WA Golf Women’s and Junior Player of the Year; member of the U.S. National Junior Team.
  • Lauryn Nguyen of Seattle: Rising senior on the Northwestern University women’s golf team; 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur participant; 2022 PNGA Women’s Amateur champion; 2022 WA Golf Women’s Player of the Year; ranked No. 63 in WAGR.
  • Kennedy Knox of Normandy Park: Won the 2024 Washington Women’s Champion of Champions; T-3 finish at 2023 Washington Women’s Amateur; 2021 Washington Women’s Amateur champion; rising senior on the University of Washington women’s golf team.

The Women’s Mid-Amateur field includes:

  • Sarah Lawrence of Snohomish: T-2 finish at 2023 Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur; qualified for the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur; 2024 Lamey Cup participant for Team WA Golf.
  • Tina Papatolis of Issaquah: T-3 finish at 2023 Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur; 2023 PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur champion; 2024 Lamey Cup participant for Team WA Golf; 2019 Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur champion.

The Women’s Amateur and Women’s Mid-Amateur are two of the 14 championships conducted annually by WA Golf.
