The 6th Annual WSGA Champion of Champions began today at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. The Men’s, Senior Men’s, Women’s and Senior Women’s Divisions completed the first round of play in the two-day, 36-hole tournament.
The 2014 WSGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year, Mike Haack of Bellevue, Wash. posted a four-under-par 68 after birdying four of his final seven holes to take a one-stroke lead into the final round in the Men’s Division.
WSGA Junior Boys’ Player of the Year Sam Warkentin of Bainbridge Island, Wash. trails by one after an opening round of three-under-par 69. Jake Koppenberg of Bellingham, Wash. and Christopher Hatch of Mukilteo, Wash. both posted rounds of two-under-par 70 to share third place while, Dana Christianson of Tacoma, Wash. sits alone in fifth after a round of one-under-par 70.
In the Senior Men’s Division, Pete Higgins of Mercer Island, Wash. carded a five-under-par 67 to take a two-stroke advantage into the final round. Richard Jonson of Seattle, Wash. finished his first round with a three-under-par 69, which puts him alone in second place. Tom Hale of Lakewood, Wash. and Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor, Wash. each carded one-under-par 71’s to share third place.
Shawn Farmer of Bellevue, Wash. holds a three-shot lead in the Women’s Division after opening with a first round of one-over-par 73. Reigning WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year Denise Kieffer of University Place, Wash. holds second place alone after a four-over-par 76. In the Senior Women’s Division, Patty Myers of Olympia, Wash. holds a one-stroke lead after an opening-round of seven-over-par 79. Closely trailing her is Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C., who posted an eight-over-par 80.
Final round action starts tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. on the #1 and #10 Tees.
