Grace Lee Defending Champs Lee, Papatolis lead Washington Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur

Walla Walla, Wash. - Grace Lee (Bellevue, Wash.) shot a 3-under par 69 to lead the 33rd Washington Women’s Amateur, while Tina Papatolis (Issaquah, Wash.), recorded an even-par 72 to lead the Washington Women’s Mid-Amateur. Both Lee and Papatolis are the defending champions of their respective divisions.

The championships are running concurrently from June 16-18, 2026, over 54 holes of stroke play, featuring the top women players of any age and mid-amateur women players aged 25 and over, across Washington and Northern Idaho.

Throughout the opening round, playing conditions were very hot, with temperatures in the high 80s. Wind also became a factor as the day progressed, resulting in relatively difficult scoring conditions.

In the Women’s Amateur, Lee’s sub-70 score came by way of a rare two-eagle round. She got to 2-under par early by recording her first eagle on the second hole but eventually made her way to the 18th tee at just 1-under. Lying two on that hole while facing an uphill shot 41 yards away from the flagstick, Lee successfully holed out to finish her opening round with her second eagle and at 3-under.

Lee is a 2026 graduate of Gonzaga University and was the WA Golf Women’s Player of the Year in 2025.

Amanda Peng (Bellevue) went bogey-free through her first 14 holes and finished one behind Lee at 2-under. As if to illustrate the lack of pictures on a scorecard, Peng went birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey on holes 14 through 17, and a safe par on 18 allowed her to preserve her earlier gained shots. Peng is second alone ahead of Darae Chung (Eugene, Ore.), who finished at even par.

In the women’s mid-amateur, Papatolis escaped the troublesome conditions well. She bogeyed her third hole, but dropped only one more shot on the 11th and had two other birdies to even out her score. Papatolis’ round illustrates the consistent level of play she’s demonstrated in 2026. She narrowly finished second in a playoff at the Washington Senior Women’s Champion of Champions and later won the Washington Women’s Four-Ball. She previously won the Women’s Mid-Amateur in 2019 in addition to 2025.

Brooke Henderson (Richland, Wash.) is three shots back of Papatolis following a 3-over par 75. Desirae Clarke (Puyallup, Wash.) is third, five back of the lead after an opening 77.

For round 2, the entire mid-amateur division will tee off before the amateur division, reflecting an inverse of round 1.

The Washington Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur championship are two of 14 held annually by Washington Golf.
