The first of four qualifiers to determine the field for the 94th Washington Men’s Amateur Championship was held today on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
Spencer Clapp of Federal Way, Daniel Campbell of Bellingham, Halen Davis of Lake Stevens and Cameron Cooper of Seattle all shot 2-under-par 70 to tie for medalist honors in leading the field at this qualifier.
The cut line for today’s qualifier ultimately landed at 3-over-par 75. Nick Palewicz of Bellingham successfully advanced on the second hole of a five-for-one playoff that was conducted to determine the final qualifying spot.
The top 19 players from today’s field of 102 have secured spots in the championship proper, set to take place August 11-13 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
The Washington Men’s Amateur Championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The championship field features 120 players, 51 of which are exempt. The remainder of the field is filled with players who must qualify at one of the four qualifying sites throughout the state.
